What the voice test measures

CalibrateYou measures the sound of your voice, not your words: pitch, resonance, smoothness, vocal fry, harshness and how much your pitch moves. The male rubric scores bass, chest resonance, smoothness, warm tone, melody and freedom from vocal fry. The female rubric scores feminine pitch, freedom from vocal fry, gentleness, smoothness and melody.

The cut-offs come from published research on which voice qualities listeners rate as attractive. It is a guide for comparing your own recordings over time, not a verdict.

Score, practice, rescore

1. Read a short passage aloud for 20 seconds. You get a 1 to 10 voice score and a score for each part of your voice.
2. CalibrateYou picks the parts that hold your score back and builds a seven-day plan of short drills, about six minutes a day.
3. Record again with a 5-rating pack or Plus. A before-and-after card shows how far your score moved, and you can share it.

What makes a voice attractive?

Listeners tend to prefer a voice that is clear, steady and relaxed, with natural pitch movement. The cut-offs come from published research on which voice qualities listeners rate as attractive. It is a guide for comparing your own recordings over time, not a verdict.

Can I make my voice more attractive?

Most of what is measured responds to practice: breath support, pace, placement and microphone technique. Each result names the parts that hold your score back, with short drills for them.

Is it free?

Yes. Your first full voice rating is free and needs no account. More ratings come with a US$3.99 pack of five or with Plus at US$7.99 a month.

Do you keep my recording?

No. It is deleted as soon as it is scored, unless you tick "save". No person listens to it.

Your recording is not kept

The recording is measured on our own server and deleted as soon as the score is computed. No person listens to it. Only the score numbers are saved, for your progress chart. The score is an automated measurement of how your voice sounds, not a judgment of you, and the drills are ordinary voice practice, not speech therapy or medical advice.
